About Me

Welcome to Savory Yum!  I’m Rika, a food enthusiast and busy mom of two living in San Diego, California. I spend about half of my time in the kitchen, with breaks that often consist of more food like a food run for tacos or an Asian soup!

My website has a focus of easy air fryer recipes for every day cooking. They’re quick and simple air fryer dishes that anyone can make, yet are flavorful and sometimes very unique from others you’ll find.

I’ve tried many different air fryers and will also share my pro-tips on choosing an air fryer and techniques for air fryer cooking.

Savory Yum will also have tips on how a couple of tweaks to ingredients or a homemade sauce can completely transform a common meal.

I use my air fryer to cook for family and friends that have many different diets, ranging from low carb to vegetarian to kid friendly, and the website will cover each of those.

I hope you leave feedback and your own tips in my comments section, as I want to get to know you more!

A little bit more about me: Even before I could walk I was busy in the kitchen, helping my mom with her catering business. I later worked in restaurants, but also learned by trying to emulate my favorite meals I had eating out.

Any time I travel I make it a point to eat the local cuisine, and have a soft spot for street food and farmer’s markets. When not cooking or chasing after my kids I can be found tinkering around in my garden (but sometimes think I am horticulturally hopeless!).

Air Fryer Tips:

Similar to the crock pot, the air fryer can be one of those life changing tools in the kitchen. Air fryers make crispy and delicious food that’s better than what you’d find in a restaurant, with just a fraction of the calories.

Air Fryers are meant to make life easier, but picking the right one and figuring out how it to best use it can be a tricky journey. I say that from experience as I’ve used many different kinds, and alongside each air fryer success I have had many, many failures!

Air Fryers come in so many different varieties. Each one works differently due to the brand, size and wattage. On top of that, things that seem trivial like the how large you cut your pieces of food can greatly impact the results of an air fryer dish.

I welcome your comments and can help you through those differences. On that same note, sometimes with an air fryer it’s best to do a small sample first to make sure you get things right. That’s the beauty of the air fryer, it’s so easy to use that you can quickly try and tweak as needed.

My greatest successes with air fryer recipes come when I cook in multiple batches, rather than trying to pack in too much food into the air fryer.

Spacing out your food and not having them overlap can do wonders. That also gives you the ability to test out the time and temperature a bit with that first batch. I’m confident in my recommendations, but as mentioned the cook time and temperature can  vary depending on your air fryer model (so use that first batch as a test!).

My biggest tip is to jump in and have fun with your air fryer! It’s not rocket science and most of the recipes you’ll find on Savory Yum are easy to follow. With little time and effort you’ll be making great recipes that are perfect for busy weeknights, game day snacks, kids lunch or your big weekend dinner.
